There are so many causes for headaches and migraines; artificial sweeteners, processed meats, caffeinated beverages, alcohol, dark chocolate, cheese and diary products are some. Other causes of migraines and headaches can be dried fruits and the sulfites in them, onions, sauerkraut, vinegar, lentils and beans, monosodium glutamate, and citrus fruits.
Heal your headache by keeping a food journal, if it includes any of the food triggers above, eliminate them one by one to see if you find headache pain relief.
Try the two organic food recipes below. They have non of the above known headache triggers and causes of migraines, so anyone with food sensitivity to them can enjoy them.
*Grated Apple and Carrot Salad
Ingredients:
2 organic apples, shredded
2 organic medium carrots, shredded
2 tbsp olive oil (or plain Greek yogurt)
¼ tsp cinnamon
Directions:
Mix all ingredients and serve immediately.

* Pear and Apple Compote
Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 organic Bosc pears cored and cut into small cubes
1 and 1/2 organic Golden Delicious apples cored and cut into small cubes
½ cup maple syrup
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
¾ tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
¼ tsp ground all spice
Directions:
Combine all the ingredients in a large, heavy saucepan over medium – high heat. Bring to a simmer. Decrease the heat to medium and simmer gently, stirring often, for 25 minutes, or until the apples and pears are very tender and the liquid reduces by half.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Using a potato masher, coarsely mash the compote. Transfer t a bowl and serve warm or cold. (adopted from The Real Food Daily CookBook by Ann Gentry).
